Welcome Spring! We hope you all are feeling a little recharged after the long winter we've had. It's now May 3, and we went from anticipating a very early season (the end of May!), to a likely normal, mid-June season. We've uncovered the strawberries, planted the 2022 crop of berries, cultivated, so now we are just
waiting, resting, I mean weeding. WE ARE WEEDING. Those of us that are at the farm right now are hand weeding the bearing fields (the one writing this is not - sorry, sisters). There seems to be a bountiful crop of sour dock in some areas and Wayne is not happy about it - there is a lot of cursing. The unbelievably good news is that we had 1" of rain today! According to Wayne this doubles the total rainfall we had for the month of April. Yikes. With the rain we should start to see more growth and that will give us a better idea on the timing of the season.
We can't wait to see everyone this year, but I need to end this by informing you of changes to our pre-picked strawberries: We will have a very limited amount of PRE-PICKED berries this year. We will provide more details as we get closer to the season, but we want our customers to be prepared, and have time to think about possible alternatives (send a friend or neighbor to pick?). Pick-your-own will stay the same.
Stay safe and see you soon.
